Resume Tips
Recruiters may receive hundreds of resumes per day. On the first
pass, each resume will receive an undivided time of about 20
seconds, possibly with only one telephone interruption, to assess
whether your resume is printed or deleted. Bearing that in mind,
does you resume advertise your qualities, experience and
achievements succinctly to inspire the recruiter?
• Check the format. Is your resume easy to speed read? Avoid
using unconventional fonts or adding photos or graphics.
• Write in clear concise verbiage that is easy to understand.
• Make sure that all contact information including email
addresses and phone numbers are current and appropriate for
recruiter contact.
• Avoid long paragraphs. Use bullets wherever possible.
• Make sure there are no grammatical or spelling errors.
• When identifying the companies where you have worked, add one
sentence to describe the company. e.g. ABC Logistics, a $3
billion Third Party Logistics organization with 15 distribution
centers across the USA. Make sure the dates are clear and
without gaps.
• Describe your responsibilities in two or three sentences only.
Then list your achievements and accomplishments. Provide
quantifiable results wherever possible. Quantify your job
duties, reporting relationships and achievements with actual
numbers.
• Degree Credentials - Please be accurate and honest.
Misrepresenting your degree is unethical and could result in
consequences that are embarrassing – or worse.
• DO NOT show date of birth, Spouse or Children’s’ names. Social
Security number.
• DO NOT list memberships to organizations that are not specific
to your career activity.
• DO NOT attach certificates for programs or seminars you have
attended.
• DO NOT include references or letters of recommendation unless
specifically requested
• If possible have others proofread your resume.
• Use keywords, especially for WMS or TMS systems you are
familiar with. Many recruiters will use these words to find your
resume in the database.
